Get Started with the H8S/2456 based Direct Drive LCD Kit

Welcome to the H8S/2456Z kit (part number YLCDRSK2456S) page where you can find the latest version resources such as the kit software, drivers, schematics, design guides and many more. Before attempting to upgrade the software and demo code, please refer to the Lifeline document which will step you through connecting the hardware and getting your PC and Demo Kit Hardware updated with the latest software, firmware and app notes. The Lifeline document refers back to many of the links below to keep mouse-clicks to a minimum.

Lifeline for the H8S/2456(S) Kit

Compiler C/C++ for H8/H8S/H8SX families, version 7.00 (Renesas Recommended)

  1. If you have not logged in - this link will display “not authorized to view this page” – If you see this error – simply click [ok] and login.
  2. You will then go to a license agreement page where you can agree and press the [submit] button
  3. You will be directed to the 7.00 compiler page – and be able to click the red [download] button.
  4. Install the software

E10A Driver, version 3.02

  1. If you have not logged in - this link will display “not authorized to view this page” – If you see this error – simply click [ok] and login.
  2. You will then go to a license agreement page where you can agree and press the [submit] button
  3. You will be directed to the E10A 3.02 driver page – and be able to click the red [download] button.
  4. Install the E10A drivers (after installing the version 7.00 compiler).

Annotated Schematics for H8S/2456

Training Modules – Self-Paced Software Training Modules that will teach you the basics of the Renesas Graphics Application Interface (GAPI).

  1. Lab 1 – Compile the Demo Project
  2. Lab 2 – Create an Animated Icon on a custom background
  3. Lab 3 – Create a user Button and watch the touchscreen data change as the program executes
  4. Lab 4 – Create a Slider and create an anti-aliased font


To download the Labs and the associated Workspaces, click the LabInstall link. This will download a self-extracting .exe archive named DirectLCD_Labs.exe that when executed will create the four C:\workspace\DirectLCD\LabX directories. Open the C:\workspace\DirectLCD\LabX directory and open the DirectDrive LabX – 2456.pdf file for the course material.
