If you have received a H8S/2378(s) kit (part number YLCDRSK2378(s)) - Don’t install any software that comes with the kit – you will need all new software and demo code – but no worries – that is what the lifeline document below is for. Below is a Lifeline that will step you through connecting the hardware and getting your PC and Demo Kit Hardware updated with the latest software, firmware and app notes. The Lifeline document refers back to many of the links below to keep mouse-clicks to a minimum.
Lifeline for the H8S/2378(s) Kit
Compiler C/C++ for H8/H8S/H8SX families, version 6.2 (Renesas Recommended) – if you upgrade to version 7.x or later – you will have to purchase another compiler license if you already own one.
- If you have not logged in - this link will display “not authorized to view this page” – If you see this error – simply click [ok] and login.
- You will then go to a license agreement page where you can agree and press the [submit] button
- You will be directed to the 6.2 compiler page – and be able to click the red [download] button.
- Install the software – but do not run the auto-updater afterwards as this will needlessly upgrade you to version 7.0.
E10A Driver, version 3.00
- If you have not logged in - this link will display “not authorized to view this page” – If you see this error – simply click [ok] and login.
- You will then go to a license agreement page where you can agree and press the [submit] button
- You will be directed to the E10A 3.0 driver page – and be able to click the red [download] button.
- Install the E10A drivers (after installing the version 6.2 compiler).

Training Modules – Self-Paced Software Training Modules that will teach you the basics of the the Renesas Graphics Application Interface (GAPI).
- Lab1 – Configure hardware, compile the Demo Project, change the splash screen
- Lab2 – Present Multiple Bitmaps and create Animation
- Lab3 – Add a button and a realtime evalution of the Touchscreen variables
- Lab4 – Add a Slider and generate an Anti-Aliased Character Font
To download the Labs and the associated Workspaces. Click the LabInstall link. This will download a self-extracting .exe archive named DirectLCD_Labs.exe that when executed will create the four C:\workspace\DirectLCD\LabX directories. Open the C:\workspace\DirectLCD\LabX directory and open the DirectDrive LabX – 2378.pdf file for the course material.
