M16C/6S

Renesas offers a software library for the Data Link Layer (layer 2 of the OSI model) and a software library for the Network Layer (layer 3 of the OSI model) for M16C/6S.
With these solutions, M16C/6S can be applied to various applications (e.g. AMR, Home/Building automation, Security, Street Lighting control, etc).
Furthermore, M16C/6S offers a single chip solution that implements a user application program with the above-mentioned libraries into M16C/6S internal flash.

Data link layer library D2DL

D2DL is a communication interface library for M16C/6S. D2DL provides the function of the layer below the second OSI reference model layer (data link layer). Implementation of any upper layer protocol is enabled by using D2DL. Moreover, the single chip solution of the PLC application becomes possible.

Network layer library "Renesas Ubiquitous Network Layer for Metering Applications"

"Renesas Ubiquitous Network Layer for Metering Applications" (hereafter called "RUN-M") is a Network Layer (layer 3 of the OSI model) library for M16C/6S, which is suitable for AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) and Street Lighting control applications. The RUN-M network consists of 1785 nodes (max) and one concentrator which controls the whole network. And 7 levels (max) routing of messages is available for long-distance communication. Moreover, RUN-M has an automatic join mechanism for assigning an address to new nodes automatically, and a parameter recovery function via EEPROM for power failures.
